Keeping your Electrolytes in Check During Labor
by Demii Kloster
During labor it’s easy to forget about hydration. With all the physical exertion and activity we endure, we often don’t think about how it affects our electrolyte balance. Electrolytes are essential for muscle and nerve function and are lost through perspiration and physical activity. Electrolytes help us to retain fluid and thus keep us hydrated. While in labor it’s always recommended to have a water bottle on hand but why not whip up your own concoction filled with hydrating fluids PLUS vital electrolytes?!
-1 cup filtered water
-3 cups organic coconut water
-1 Tbsp raw honey
-1/4 tsp sea salt
-1/2 lemon (juiced)
-1 Tbsp organic apple cider vinegar
Mix all ingredients together and drink generously when needed before/during and/or after labor. This will help to keep you hydrated so you can focus on you and welcoming your new little into the world!
